Assistant General Manager

Jimmy

I was born in Cali, Colombia in 1974.  I have always had a love for outdoor activities and adventure. Before I found my way to scuba diving, I was a sport climber and mountain biker. I also spent 4 years in the army and then 9 years as a skydiver, as well as obtaining a study in business administration.

In 2006, I made a life changing decision to become a professional scuba diver, and by 2007 I achieved my first professional rating as a Divemaster.  This training allowed me to work in many different dive operations around Colombia, including a liveaboard operation off the Pacific coast, as well as some internships in Florida, in the USA. It was during this time that I began to discover another direction and passion within scuba diving, and that was in technical diving. In May 2010, I became a Dive Instructor and found that I loved to teach and educate people on how to scuba dive.

I moved to the island of Bonaire in 2012 to continue to follow this dream of diving and worked for many years for a large resort with a growing technical department, eventually becoming an Assistant Dive Operations Manager.  In 2013 I received my certifications as a PADI Tec Diver and NAUI Tec Instructor.

However, the biggest moment in training for me happened in 2014, when I took the GUE FUNDAMENTAL CLASS.  For me, this was the moment everything changed, and a new level of technical diving began.  With this GUE training, I found a higher degree of commitment, professionalism and dedication, that further increased my passion for scuba diving, and lit up a sense of underwater exploration I had not yet experienced or known was missing until that moment.  This experience led me to progress within GUE and become a CCR1, Cave and DPV Diver, and eventually helped me find my way to become part of Area9 Mastery Diving Research Center in 2022.

I want to use my experience and training to help be a mentor to those divers that are looking to improve their techniques, change their habits and become better divers.
